html – files aren't being upload using php and apache

Questions:

using php i am trying to upload an image to my linux server using apache, i have a html file, a php file and the directory where the image is meant to be saved. However, the file is not uploading to the directory and there isn’t a suitable error, main error is “file type is not JPEG, PNG or GIF”
