Is BPMN engine worth learning for Java developer?-Exceptionshub

Questions:

I’m a Java developer moved to a project the main purpoise of which is to create a BPMN workflow app based on Camunda engine (simple synchronous REST app). The app should accept BPMN-notated business-processes and handle the actions/progress over the BPMN model. I see that most of the work will be related to learning the engine itself and then just applying it’s APIs in proper order/places (so it seems to me a mixture of programming and BA work).
So the question is: is it worth spending time on such a project from the career perspectives or I’d better try to find one with morden and more perspective stack such as reactive programming/k8s/docker/ messanging (rabbitMq/kafka), microservices design?
