php – Work on local copy of remote server in NetBeans

I am quite new to NetBeans, and didn’t find the required information on StackOverflow or the official doumentation, so I hope someone else can help me out here.

I have a php Project on a remote server. I already set up the connection, and all the files that are on the server appear in the Files Hirarchy Structure Window on the left. What I want to achieve:

I want to work on the downloaded files, change something, and eventually upload it with clicking on it and selecting ‘synchronize’. This part works, but right now, if I click run, there opens up the Webpage that is located on the server, and the local changes that haven’t been uploaded yet are ignored. Is it somehow possible to run the project compiled from the local changed files, without every time uploading every change? I don’t want to mess around on a Website that is currently live.

If it’s not possible, is there another way to achieve the desired workflow ‘change locally – test locally – upload changes to server’? I want to avoid using a VCS like GitLab, as I don’t change code on a regular basis, so I want to keep the whole setup as simple as possible. Thanks in advance for your answers.
